Debrand Opens Up Its Textile Recovery Data

Debrand has published its first transparency report, setting out what happens to materials handled through its textile reverse-logistics business. Released on 28 April, the FY2025 report separates the destinations of collected products and identifies obstacles to wider recovery.

Following materials beyond collection

The reporting period runs from 1 October 2024 to 30 September 2025. Debrand reports 347,440 pounds directed to reuse and 27,107 pounds to advanced recycling. Its published diversion figures cover textiles, packaging and warehouse by-products, so the scope extends beyond clothing alone. The report is available at https://debrand.ca/transparency-report/.

Destinations described in the report

• Resale, donation and remanufacturing.
• Recycling routes, including fibre reclamation.
• Energy recovery and other disposal routes.

These distinctions help readers follow what happens after collection. A garment finding another wearer and material being processed for a different industrial use represent different outcomes. Reporting the destination makes those outcomes visible without treating the initial collection step as the end of the story.

A business built around returned products

Amelia Eleiter and Wes Baker founded Debrand in 2008. The Vancouver-based business initially handled branded marketing displays before moving further into apparel after lululemon approached it about customer returns. That history helps explain the emphasis on sorting: individual products need to be matched with a destination that can use them, taking account of their condition and the available recovery options.

Making the findings useful to partners

Debrand intends to develop the report annually, improve traceability and refine its data. The release invites wider sharing of information across the industry and describes partnerships involving resale programmes, takeback pilots and textile-to-textile recycling trials.
